Mick Goodrick's works throughout his life were dedicated to constantly advancing the possibilities of the guitar. For advancing guitarists, it was this spirit of breaking ground harmonically, melodically, technically and conceptually that he gifted to those who were fortunate to study and play with him.
Throughout his career, he also composed for the guitar, which gave him a chance to form a body of work that was both a reference for applied ideas but also beautiful to hear performed.
I thought I'd form a thread where this compositional side of Mick Goodrick could be discussed, or just enjoyed.
His first 9 pieces are performed here by Stelios Mihas.
I'm working on the re-publication of these long out of print compositions.

Oooh, I have this folio! I picked it up years ago, before it went out of print. Fully admit that I nearly completely forgot about it, but I will dig it out.

Very nice to hear someone actually play them. Are any of them particular favorites of yours, Jimmy?

There's a duo, No Turning Back that we used to play together. I'll never be able to hear or remember that without hearing him in the room with me. I want to write a version for single solo guitar. When I told him I wanted to do that, he said "No. It's written for two guitars.", and then he thought for a minute, and he said "Do it. It could work." But I never got around to it.
    Maybe now.

By the way, I just cracked open a box of manuscripts containing 50 written out variations on Steve Swallow's Falling Grace, each of which is an etude on some technique or compositional focus which he considered fundamental to his improvisation lexicon.
He made me promise that I'd publish it at some point.
    Fantastic stuff. More to come!
