I didn't recognize him either. But that L5 is so blond it's almost white!

The guitar was made no earlier than a year or two prior so the finish hadn't ambered yet.

I don't know if you'd call that a Florentine blonde but fortunately it's not a Venetian one

Was it? Hard to tell. The sound is a bit out of sync with the video.

He certainly looks to be playing all the right drums and cymbal, and of course the cowbell. (I know we assume everything before the late 60's was lip-synced and mimed, but it might have been cheaper and more efficient to record them live on the set.)

He actually started out as a drummer with his family's vaudeville act.

According to an article in Vanity Fair, "He could sing, he could act, he could dance. He learned to play the banjo—scarily well—in a day. He played the drums like a pro. He was an expert golfer, a champion ping-pong player. He composed a symphony, Melodante, which he performed on the piano at Franklin Roosevelt’s 1941 Inauguration Gala. Mickey was some kind of beautiful, talented monster."

    More Rooney drumming:

    With Louis Armstrong:

    And playing piano and singing:

    He was an old-school all-around entertainer. One-of-a-kind.

Naturally, I thought, oh my god, he took over all our instruments. At least he doesn't play guitar.

    Oops...

Oh he could tapdance even as a little kid.

Mickey is the kind of guy who would steal your girlfriend in 5 minutes flat.

I wouldn't let a girl of mine anywhere near the little bastard.

Yup. And wow, I had no idea about his talents. Say what you want but I don't think there's a Mime who could out do him!

Or not. There's a part in that video where I finally realised where mine must have gotten her term musique de singe from

I had no idea he was that talented. Will have to search some of those films out. I always appreciate multi-talented people who are so far beyond me that I'm forced to sit and enjoy, instead of being plagued with trying to figure out how they do what they do.
