This was a trend for a while I think. I’m a huge fan of these dynasonics. Is anyone still playing jazz on a gretsch?

Not necessarily the first thing one thinks of when you hear the word "Gretsch", but my Jimmie Vaughan signature Synchromatic does quite an admirable job at jazz ever since I added a Rhythm Chief. Plus it has looks for days.

That's the pickup that should have been in the George Van Eps model.

Jesse van Ruller used to have dynasonics on his Levin, possibly on the Zeigler and on the Elferink (although that could be a De armond )

    Why not?

For about a decade I played a 1958 epi Broadway I put dynasonics in and liked it a lot.

I believe Billy Bean played a Gretsch with dynasonics.

Apropos of the season, I used to like to break out a White Falcon & Polytone for some solo holiday jazz. Haven't owned one in 25 years, photo is 30 years old:

I've posted before about my Gretsch 6117 Double Anni reissue. I love it, in fact it is my go-to guitar for playing these days, even over my 175. (Maybe because it's closer to the couch and is plugged in...)

Once you get the pickup volumes and mud switch adjusted properly--perfect jazz tone.

It has P90s (HiLoTrons--noiseless) instead of humbuckers, which adds to the sound. Made in Japan...a great guitar.

Hard to find a video of this where the sound isn't overdriven and treble-heavy, but this gives an idea. At about 2:00 he cuts out the treble with the "mud switch", and you can get an idea of the mellowness--even though he's playing with both pickups engaged. Imagine Larry Carlton playing one of these:
