Recording time (and audio quality) may be a limit for you on the old Boomerang. Newer Rang III would be fine though.
Any of the Jamman loopers will work, or the Line 6 JM4. The bonus is that those provide a tempo, and in the case of the JM4 you can actually load up backing tracks, drums, just a metronome (or nothing). The JM4 also it has a tuner.

Hey thanks alot for the advice, i would be using it more as a practice tool, I have Pro Tools and great drum samples, and keys, ect... i was just looking for something i could just play a little guitar progression, loop it, and then solo over it just to work on different chords, scales and stuff, thanks for the links i will look over them and compare, having a tempo control is always a useful thing though, appreciate the help.

If its mainly a practice tool you want I don't think you can go past a Boss RC-2. Similar I believe to the Jamman Looper but I only have experience with the Boss. Perfect for what you want & very easy to use. Boss have a new model (RC-3) & its big brother (RC-30 I think) so you should be able to pick up an RC-2 quite cheaply.

I agree with Ian. I would vote Jamman solo. Does what you'd need, is simple, and has tempo.

So the Jamman solo and Boss RC-2 are relatively cheap and just the size of a standard single pedal, i have always liked Digitech stuff, and Boss as well, so at this point it looks like the Boomerang is old news and quite expensive for just a practice tool (the old Boomerang im speaking of) i'll do some checking on ebay and see what kind of deal i can find, thanks for the feedback guys.....

The JamMan has some slight tone reduction issues so it's not ideal for serious performance but as a practice tool I couldn't be happier with mine. I've read complaints about software issues and have had a few glitches occur on me but once again, as a practice tool none of those things are a big deal.

I do feel guilty saying that and not supporting the small producer
One thing to mention is that having the foot-roller vol control is great
and the action of the foot buttons is great too on the rang
Clouting the your foot exactly 'on the one' is crucial with looping
so the design of the foot buttons is v important

Yea thats what i was thinking Pingu, foot roller and foot pedals seem cool to me, honestly, the 'Rang was in my mind because Trey Anastasio from Phish uses it, or at least did back in the day, never really knew about any other loop pedals and never sought any out, and then i came across one on ebay and thought to myself, it would be great to just stomp out a chord, or a couple chords and work on scales and exercises, plus i like the look of the Rang rather than just a small pedal, because of the options and the foot roller, but everyone has seemed to come up with better solutions, still havent come to any conclusion, will probably just try some out at the store before i buy anything

Boss RC series loopers are certainly worth a look. New RC-3 and RC-30's coming out, making the RC2 and RC20 a bit less on the used market. Then there's the RC50 that is a bigger, pro rig more like the Boomerang, but probably a bit easier to use.
I've been looking for something that can do Verse/Chorus/Verse, which my Line 6 M13 looper won't do. The JamMan and Boss loopers will, with additional footpedals.

Thanks for the input Woyvel, but i bid and won a Boomerang Plus for $240 today on ebay lol, i like the idea of the foot controls, and really just wanna use it for phrase sampling quickly while playing, it looks to be in great shape, near mint, and comes with a Boomerang Gigbag and i like that the power supply was neatly wrapped and good condition, there is another seller that has the original Boomerang, version 1, with the power supply wire sloppily all over the place and even a picture with the unit on top of the chord, its a buy it now or best offer at $179 i think it was, im sure i could of continued to search around, but im pretty happy to get it in good condition especially with the gigbag and everything intact, helps my OCD lol, but i appreciate everyone's advice, this is actually the first forum i have ever been a part of, so its nice to ask questions and get good feedback, im appreciating being part of this, thanks

Sounds like you got a decent deal. BTW, I think the Boomerang can also do more than one loop at a time.

Great
You'll love your Rang+ man !
I've just been running mine ||:Ab Maj7 | F7 #9 |Bbmin7 | Eb7 #9 :||
for practicing lines ......... couldn't do without mine.
I only use it for woodshedding ideas
PS
Yes the rang+ does have two independant loops A and B
(I never use the B loop though .......)
(the orig rang had one loop .... and was great too)

Oh thats great, Woyvel thanks for that lol, i wasnt sure if i had overpaid or not, i thought it was a decent price since they did retail at $599 back in the day, and Pingu i'm excited man i was reading some more about them, and it seems the users really love them, as you do, the practice and woodshedding is the element that really excites me as well as knowing people do use them live too. Thats why i figured the 'Rang Plus having the Version 2 software, and looking in better condition with the bag was the way to go, and i couldn't find too much information explaining the difference between the original and the Plus, but having the two independent loops could be really useful. I'm waiting for the guy to send me some other shipping options, as he is charging $20 for economy shipping, which i hope isn't parcel post lol, and was hoping for something a little sooner, i can't wait to plug in

Several years ago I saw Rich Severson of Guitar College. This was at a guitar show in Dallas and he was using a boomerang. He comped a set of chord changes and was improvising along with it. It sounded really nice.

I received my Boomerang Plus yesterday and its awesome, i couldn't be happier, it's incredibly easy to loop, i love the volume foot roller and i haven't even gotten into the other functions yet, very glad i went with the Boomerang and not with the others, i have Pro Tools, Reason, and if I wanted to make loops with a metronome and/or for recording, i would just plug into Pro Tools and do it up right, but for something to just tap and go for practice, and i could definitely see using this live, i would definitely go with the Boomerang, very happy customer...............

Does anyone have the PDF version of the Boomerang Phrase Sampler Plus Version 2 Manual ? I didn't get one with it, and I know there is a manual on the Boomerang Website, but I would prefer to have a PDF to put on my iphone so I can have it in front of me while im messing with it..............
