    Hi,

Has anyone owned one of these puppies? I have too many guitars but every once in a short while I get the fever and urge to grab yet another guitar.

Thoughts from any who have owned this?

    Thanks!

Looks similar to the DeArmond X-155 I had, Fender made them in the 1990's.

Unusual to see an archtop with EMG 85s and a battery box retrofitted.

I have that Squier, I hold it in my avatar. Of course, mine is stock, with Duncan Designed PUs and all wooden bridge. Bought it after trying all the affordable Ibanezes Epiphones and Gretches. You can check my Yt channel for some tunes I played on it., You'd better search for some better players, but they rarely play guitars this cheap. I have only 2 guitars, that one and Squier Tele from 1986, or 87.

This was the most recent one (in showcase thread, or practical standards one), I gae more details about the gear used:

Nice tune! The comping transports me to some of my favorite early Jamaican classic records of the 50's and 60s.

I am betting that with some great pickups most folks wouldn't guess that it's a cheap guitar.

    I'm just guessing!

I did find it better than comparable Ibanez and Epiphones, 500-600Eur range, at least in terms of playability. For PUs I can't really say, but they are quite strong/ loud.

I've had one DeArmond guitar, but the thing that really knocked me out was the DeArmond Gold Tone p/ups that came stock with it. That is what you are looking at on that guitar!

Why would you assume that the guitr needs better p/ups??? In fact, I have bought extras and use them on other guitars. One is a Guild X170, whose p/ups were a turn-off, and a Epiphone Lucille (ES355) whose stock p/ups were nice but weak. Now its a killer tone-machine.

That X155 should sound great with those p/ups. They are very articulate and sensitive (on my guitars) And versatile, with 3 adjustment screws for height, and angle. And then you have the adjustable pole pieces. These p/ups are no longer made and fetch big bucks on Ebay. Buy the guitar for the p/ups !!!!!!!!!!!

He (and I) was talking about Squier X-155, stock Duncan Designed PUs, I think. Not that there's something wrong with them either. Squier is the guitar he's looking at.

You talk about De Armond PUs on De Armond X-155, which wss something almost Guild sold under De Armond Name.

Guild used De Armond PUs, and let them badge couple guitars with their own name, as a part of some deal , or something. Those De Armond guitars to Guild were like Squier to Fender, or Epiphone to Gibson.
When Fender bought De Armond, to close it down, they've assembled the rest of semi raw material, what was left on stock, but with different PUs, into these Squiers, at least that's the word on the web.
What was the deal not to use De Armond PUs, but Duncan Design, I've no idea.

This is the stock Squier X-155:

    Nice looking X - 155.

I found a guy selling one that looks exactly like this for $250. Am I being rude if I offer him $200?

I payed double that for mine, about USD500, in 4 instalments, with hard case, but this is not America, shipping duties and taxes are all involved, so ...
Ask him, why not. If he accept, you'll be less mad at me should you not like the guitar afterall.

I just asked. I am now waiting for a response. If for any reason I should vanish without a trace, know that I enjoyed my time posting on this site and please tell my family I loved them all dearly!

Me too, if I vanish, its because of posting without "reading ALL of the fine print"

I saw a picture of a DeArmond guitar while skimming thru - never checking out the Squier.
I'm sorry ossifer, it won't not happen again.

Anyway, I'm passionate about the DeArmond p/ups, they sound real good, just played my guitar with them, and I really feel satisfied after such tone.

OK that's enough for one nite.

So the guy said, neit, non, nada, never, no!!! $200, no! $250, yes!! And on top of that, I would have to drive 40 miles to him to pick up the guitar that has NO case.
I already own Epi Joe Pass and another arch top. Do I REALLY need this lovely X-155?

    Aargh!

Not only did he emphatically say "no", he sold it and gloated about it! HA!

He was a good sport though.

I own one. coast me 450$ with original case. almost new condition. Have had it about 6 months. Nickel hardware, the pickups are anicol 5 magnets very strong. sound better than a Artcore.Squier X-155-squire-x155-2001-jpgSquier X-155-20181111_0731482-jpgI took the picguard off. It is what squire called the 24 series they also had a 335 semi hollow which are even harder to find.
