Just have a look at Joe's guitar collection :
Joe Bonamassa - Joe Bonamassa Guitar
Amazing ! Not only LP or solid bodies to play the blues but also a lot of fine jazz guitars to die for !
I just found this as I was looking for tour dates : he will play at less than one hour drive from my home, and I'll be there (even if he doesn't play all these guitars ....)

And the rest........

well . . . . so much for all the talk about "guys (and gals) with many guitars are just hedge fund managers, doctors and lawyers who really don't know how to play them". :-)

It's good to see that apparently it's possible also in other music genres than R&B or rap to make a decent enough living to buy a collection like that. Must have costed a fortune.

His dad owns a music store I think.

And now we know were all the guitars and amps go. To people who apparently don't want anyone else to have them.
Im all for collecting but when your collection is this big, it's borderline distasteful and a discredit to other musicians.
Unless he uses all of them on a semi regular basis. Obviously not singling him out, there are much worse examples than this.

Why not just give the guitars and amps to those who can't afford them because they haven't worked as hard at being successful as Joe has?
"Borderline distasteful" for a man of means to have multiples of "stuff" he loves? That's just terribly judgemental. What right do you claim to have to be judgemental of Joe ("not singling him out") Banamassa?
"I'm all for collecting . . . " Yeah . . . right!! As long as one's collection doesn't exceed what you believe to be appropriate limitations. What Joe has here is a mere pittance, compared to what others have . . and had. Clapton too had "a few" guitars. They were, as you know, sold off for a charitable reason. I guess he too was borderline disgraceful?
Personally, I hope Joe doubles his collection . . if he choose to do so. Joe's guitars will eventually find their way back into the market . . and in the hands of other players, collectors or player/collectors, or collector/players. All collections do. Between Tsumura and Chinery, they had collections of well over 2,000 stringed instruments. Just think of all the people they deprived, by your assessment. Yet, those guitars have now found their way into the hands of others, players and collectors alike. Mick Mars, Keith Richards, Slash, George Benson, Yngwei Malmsteen (now there's a guy who has "deprived" quite a few people from owning olympic white strats), Lenny Kravitz, Richard Gere, Rick Neilsen.
Here's a guy who should definitely be sent directly to Myanmar for 1,000 lashes with bamboo;

Perhaps governments of all countries should impose limits on how many of any given item its citizens are allowed to own?Last edited by Patrick2; 04-02-2015 at 11:30 AM.

I think the picture's really weird. All those cool guitars, and he poses holding a Flying V?

There's a lot to admire about this guy besides his amazing collection of guitars. He truly loves music and tours relentlessly. He plays music that is not on the pop charts, yet manages to sell lots of CDs and play large arenas. He does his booking, promotion and recordings "in house" and retains control of everything. And, of course, is an extremely skilled guitarist.
Not really a fan of his style of music, though I'm sure he puts on a great live show.

If we're going to gush and admire the guy let's at least spell Bonamassa correctly.

Ya know what? I never, ever, ever hear collectors dis'ing very serious and talented players, who might be playing very inexpensive or totally unimportant guitars because it's all they can afford to own. So, who's got the class out of those two groups? Is it the envious and jealous people such as ArchtopHeaven and others? Or, is it the collector who gets just as much enjoyment listening to guys like Joe Pass, who played and recorded with inexpensive guitars all of his life . . unless they were guitars owned by others?
While I'm not gushing, as you suggested . . I do admire the guy . . tremendously. Like you, I'm not at all a big fan. But, I wouldn't walk out of a concert . . and I doubt you would either.

And to be totally honest I did walk out at an outdoor festival. Good player, has put his career together well, but music has to affect me either viscerally or intellectually or preferably both. And his music does neither.
