Anyone have any experience, good or bad, buying from Jay Wolfe:?

Edit: I'm specifically asking about direct experiences with them, not their reputation.

No experience here, but i heard only good about them!

Only heard good things; big Heritage dealer; no own experience.

I had interacted w/Jay when shopping for an H575. Although the transaction never finalized due to the fact that the vast majority of forum members advised me to buy used rather than new.
Still, he seemed to me to be a straightforward businessman who was eager to make a new customer. He offered me a very fair deal on a new H575 and I would have purchased had I not found a terrific deal on a Mint Condition H575 Custom.
If a new H555 semi-hollow is in my future, I will certainly consider purchasing from Wolfe's Guitars.

Hi,
I have personally dealt with Jay Wolfe on multiple occasions and have purchased several Heritages from him, including a specially ordered guitar. He is one of the nicest and honest people you will encounter in the industry. If I were in the market for an instrument that he sells, he would be my go-to dealer of choice.
Hope that answers your question.

Some years ago I was looking for a gig bag for my Heritage Golden Eagle. Jay did a lot of research and found exactly the right one, then gave me a very fair price for it. I no longer have the Heritage, but I still have the gig bag and still enjoy using it. I'd deal with him again, if my shopping took me his direction, without any hesitation or reservation.

I called them a while back and was going to drive up there but I was bombarded with advertisements on that call and rather than listen to them, I hung up... never been there.
While I dislike automated answering devices, I would not stand for a fusillade of ads before the myriad of selections after that. Maybe that is working for them, it must they have been in business a long time.

I had a positive experience and enjoyed buying from Wolfe ..... a Heritage Golden Eagle
That was years ago at a Nashville guitar show in '94 .... but it was a positive experience

I bought a Godin Jazz SA from Jay. Second one off the line. It was a good transaction and he was very helpful.

I have experience with them personally, and they are the best dealer I have found...for the way they interact with you, the way they go overboard with help and advice, and customer service. My only complaint about them is that I can't afford to go there on a regular basis and buy what I want...I am in love with about 8 or 9 guitars there!

I purchased a 575 Mahogany/Spruce 4pt. HRW once from Jay about 13 years ago. As I recall, I was given 24hrs to evaluate it. I don't know if that policy has changed or not. There were two minor issues, which Jay cleared up quickly. I am still playing it today. The entire transaction went smoothly and I found him to be an honorable businessman. I've messaged him a few other times since when I saw something interesting and wanted a quote.

they need some website love, apparently another good shop with a good reputation though.. I haven't dealt with or been there (though I went to music school for a time in Gainesville). Florida is a nasty market to own a shop in with all the competition from the big box stores filled with peoples "hard for cash" guitars that have been sold. If you heard from this site that they are a decent place to buy from I would definitely make an order of something less expensive and see how the transaction goes down (if you like it make the purchase you intended on making). The guys at this site are awesome players and knowledge, but hard to please with high expectations of accuracy (personally so am I, especially at the price points that some of the guitars here sell for). I have confidence in the collective mindset of this site and the opinions formed here on almost everything guitar.

Fabulous experience with Jay Wolfe. He's the first dealer I found reasonable to negotiate with.
Thanks to Jay Wolfe for making a Heritage Super Kenny Burrell experience possible!

Another long time fan of Wolfe Guitars. I've bought, sold and traded many guitars with Jay, and have always come away with a positive feeling. He is however, in the business to make money, so I do recommend negotiating (as noted by 2B) and comparison shopping with other dealers before reaching final sale terms.

If I were going to purchase a Heritage guitar new, Jay Wolfe is the first place I would look. He has had the very best of working relationships with Heritage Guitars, and he consistently gets some truly neat instruments commissioned that have caught my interest. Many of the guitars that I have hankered (including the Super Eagle I own) have either started out at Wolfe Guitars, or have been resold by them.

I'm a big fan of Wolfe Guitars. Jay is a good guy who is generous with his time. He allows customers to play his guitars in the shop without feeling rushed or pressed to buy and gives honest advice that brings clients like me back time and again.
An example of such experience is as follows: He's the only guy in Florida that I know of who owns and runs a PLEK machine, so a few weeks back I made an appointment to drive up to have one of my guitars run through the PLEK process. Upon inspection of the guitar, Graham the guitar tech recommended I not take on the expense of Plekking the guitar because it wasn't necessary in that case. I feel that it would have been very easy for him to take my money, put the guitar in the machine, and send me on my way. Needless to say, next time I need a refret and PLEK job, I'll be knocking on his door without hesitation.

Wolfe's is a fine place to buy. Their customer service is excellent. They may be a little bit more expensive than some but worth it. You will end up with what you want.
If you are considering a Heritage order, another good option is Gary Hines (guitarcarver). He's completely honest and does set ups as good as anyone on Earth.
