So I have a project that is dying to get done. I have the DV Mark Micro 50 head, and I have a Yamaha 10" 8 Ohm speaker. I just need an empty cabinet to mount the speaker and I've got a medium-mini combo.
Any suggestions? I don't want to spend a lot of money. I have been on Reverb and eBay and I see plenty of 1x12 empty cabs and 1x15, pretty much well under $100 US, but no 1x10.

Empty little Fender amp cabs come up locally and on Ebay.

Under $100 is a tough order for a quality cab.
The best thing close to that would be Nerby: Nerby Custom Speaker Cabinets - PayPal and Pricing Information

Just a thought, unless the size is an issue it's pretty easy to replace just the front panel of a 12" cab to a 10" panel or even get a 12 to 10" converter / adapter.
I went the former path with my Twin Reverb

As an example a quick search of the local CL turned up this, I would be willing to bet with a bit of patience you can turn something up locally.

SO... I found a Marshall "Mini Stack" speaker-the cab holds a 10" 25w speaker. I plan to pull that speaker and replace it with my 150w 4 ohm and should be ready to go with the DV Mark Micro 50, a small rig that can handle an auxiliary line in, 3 band EQ, and reverb. The 4 Ohm speaker will draw the maximum power from the amp.
I'll let you guys know how it went!

Hey Lawson,
you might want to do a before & after test? just to see how good the two different speakers sound. You never know -- that Marshall may deliver! also good for setting a benchmark incase you decide to explore other speakers.
BTW, good find on the cab! 10 inchers are not near as popular as 12's

I might do that. But I think the 4 ohm will out-perform the 8 ohm 25w speaker.
The cab was $95 with the speaker in it, so I don't think I did too badly.

Currently the cab has a Celestion G10 Vintage in it, being driven by either my SuperChamp X2 or a Quilter 101 heads. I get a far more detailed tone with it from both compared to through my 12" Cannabis Rex. Not better, just different.
The cab is closed back - and I do wonder whether it makes any sense to take a saw to the back panel and try it partially open.

I did a similar mod. I enlarged the Marshall mini 10" cab to 12". Fitted a G12-T75.
At medium volume, it works very well.
Boomy clean bass note with large wattage driving the speaker will cause some cracking.
It looks ultra cool as a mini 1960.Last edited by r_cc_c; 09-11-2016 at 11:36 AM.

Funny that You ask, I am planning to make a 10" Brute copy from pine some of these days. I'm going to install the amp parts from my Polytone Mini Brute IV in it with 10" 4ohm Jensen Tornado.
I thought to cover it with tweed but of course it should be black. So I have lately been testing how to make the tweed black. One round shellac and 3-4 rounds of Liberon spirit based dark gray paint should do it.
A ready made Marshall cab sounds very fun and practical, though!

In the mean time, I'm loving this DV Mark Micro 50 head through the Quilter 12" extension speaker. And at 8 Ohms I'm not getting the full power of the head.
This amp head really does what I've been wanting. Good EQ, Reverb, balanced line out, auxiliary line in, high quality sound all the way through, compact size.
-
The head wants to see 4 ohms? Are you set on 1x10? If so, the converter is a great idea.
Me, I'd go for a 2x10 cab and use two 8 ohm speakers. Some pretty nice 2x10 cabs around used, though I rarely see decent stuff at the 100 mark. It'd be heavier, but 2x10 has some nice advantages.
