I was a little late on the blowout deal at GC for the Natural 175. I had an order in for one, but it said "backordered", which was really computer gibberish for "you're not getting that guitar for $439" They cancelled my order the next week.
By then the GAS was pumping through my veins and I would not be denied, so I started searching the interwebs. I really wanted the Wine Red one, so when one popped up barely used with a HSC at GC for a really good price, I pounced on it.
It showed up yesterday and I must say, even though my expectations were pretty high based on what I've been reading, it's even better than I expected. Though I've been playing off and on for 40 years, I'm a Jazz novice and have never played anything quite like it. The closest thing I have is a DeArmond Starfire semi, and while that is a pretty nice guitar, this is a notch above that.
The first thing that jumped out at me was the clarity and definition of each note. I guess that's typical of the hollow bodies, but it really is stunning. I've been playing it through my Monoprice 5w with a little HOF reverb thrown in, and it really sounds amazing. I love the pickup's. Love the neck and the frets too. I also really love the satin wine red finish and have no intention of buffing it out as I think it looks really classy.
It still has the stock 10's on it, so I just ordered up a set of TI 12's.

That looks extremely classy, looking at your photo of the guitar, and I suddenly want a wine red Epi 175. The satin finish looks beautiful, and you're absolutely spot on about not buffing it. Some lovely grain in the top there as well, enhanced by the colour. Anyhow - I'd say you've done rather well there, and congratulations.

Nice! The Wine Red satin finish really lends itself nicely to this guitar... Looks great!

Way to go finding a lightly used model and the case is nice bonus.

    Enjoy!

So many gits, so little space and money :-)

Enjoy it, Epi has a winner there.

That is one fine looking guitar. The red, black, and gold is a sharp combination. Congratulations, and play it in good health!

It's so nice see folks loving these Epiphones.
And that one is really pretty. The gold hardware and the zigzag tailpiece really make it pop.
This is a great time to buy guitars. Good choices and great prices.
Enjoy it and thanks for showing it off to us!

That looks realy cool! I didn't know Epiphone made them in wine red. Epi makes a fine ES-175. I tried out one a year ago, and was quite impressed with it. Congrats!

That's killer! The first I've seen with gold hardware. Did a previous owner swap the original hardware for gold?

    At any rate, congratulations!

Actually, it's an illusion because the color is a bit off on the photo. While the knobs are gold, the rest of the hardware is chrome.
    Here's a little better photo:

It really is a beautiful and finely crafted guitar. This is a 2014 that I believe was made in Korea.

You did good! I'd encourage a pro setup. Mine arrived with the frets dressed. These truly are exceptional Epi's. Good luck!

Mine also had excellent fret work. Just a 1/8 turn of the truss rod and about a 1/8 turn of the bridge saddle adjustment wheels, and it was perfect. Frets are actually excellent beyond all expectations. Proof that if you build a guitar with a merely "competent" body, give it a decent neck, good frets, and excellent pickups, you build a really serviceable, affordable instrument.

I don't know whether the previous owner of mine had a setup, but it seems spot on to me and I concur on the frets - it has the nicest fret work of any guitar I own. I really love this guitar!

Same experience with an Epi Casino!

Funny, I loved the Epi 175's every time I tried one. But I have an L5.
So, when I went looking for an inexpensive "thin line" for the gig, I found a used Casino '61 RI. Amazed that someone would trade this beauty in. One of the best playing and sounding guitars!

Yep! The new Epi ES-175 I received from GC is a 2014..
Although, it may have sat in a warehouse for a while..
It barely needed a thing done to it set-up wise.

Plays real nice .. Right out of the box!

I wonder what work is done here in US during the "Set-up process?
    "3" did a great job !

You might (or might not) need to tweak the truss rod going from .010 to .012 strings. The neck is pretty thin, and not the stiffest in the world. But that's easy enough to do. These sound better to my ear with a wooden bridge - the TOM is just too bright for my taste, but YMMV. But all in all, they are nice guitars, especially for the price. Mine can't stack up to my Benedetto, but it's not that far below it.
