So I've wanted a 72 reissue tele for years now but working part time and living on my own makes buying one kind of hard at times so I always put it off. This year I was gonna buy one but now they are over a grand in Canadian bills so I couldn't afford one . I started would it be cool to build one , I already had a neck laying around. So in February I got a head of rent and my landlord actually encouraged me to buying a guitar body lol he said you might as well start while your ahead .
After a few weeks of searching for an Canadian company that wouldn't break the bank on a custom body I was led to tonebomb guitar parts from Alberta. They told me they were running behind a few weeks being a newer company only a few years old but they price quote wasn't even $150cad so I couldn't complain. I thought the 72 had an ash body like an 52 but I was wrong . I got an email a little over a week ago the body was finished said they were sorry for the longer time than expected . But less than 7 days after it landed in my mail box my 72 custom ash tele body. It is fitted for an strat neck with three bolts. The neck fits but the holes are off just a hair being due to my none fender mij neck.
We added a few coats of stain to it that I mean my landlord did lol
To day we added more coats
Tomorrow we are going to finish the staining process and let everything settle. Then next week we are going to give it gloss coating .
I have no hardware but will get there in the next few weeks

Looks good. I'll second the thought on a touch of amber. But looks fine as it is now.
There's something in my head that can't wrap around a Strat headstock on a Tele, but that's why there's so many different guitars out here. Something for everyone.
Every now and again I look at my Tele with the thought of doing this.....
Maybe someday.....

Looks beautiful - great job. I am curious as to what pickups you plan to install. I am contemplating a similar build and the only authenticate pickups I have found are Telenator, which are pretty darn expensive.

I'm liking this journey, keep us up to date.
What bridge pickup are you going for?

Re pickups, if you're un Europe check The Creamery. I have a '72 custom tele with a Creamery classic in the neck, absolutely brilliant. You can find some videos on YT, here's one guy playing Alone Together

I ordered the rest of the parts today. Was talking to my friend whims owns an auto shop and he said he could paint my guitar for me . So I'm going daphne blue for the body and alpine white on the pickguard. Both are official colours from Cadillac in 1958. I found paint codes and other numbers ect so now it waiting on money to get it done .
