This one gets my vote: WallHanger.html .
Hang a nice piece of tapestry behind it. Hang a picture frame around the guitar with an acid-free poster mounting board backing or two.
-
Made my own using cedar caps for balcony posts and U hangers
I use some old leather glove fingers I slipped over the U for added protection
I screw the whole thing in the drywall using drywall anchors if there is no beam behind
I use 2 screws one on top and one under to counter the lever effect.
Have 4 of them, they are cheap and nice looking.
I could let my 10 pounds Lester for many years without any problem.
None of my guitars back are touching the wall, I even had a dreadnought for a while it was clearing too.

I have a strong opinion on this topic. The Hercules locking mounts are perfect from the standpoint of function. They lock when you rest the guitar on it. They unlock as soon as you lift the guitar up a few inches. I've never had a problem with a nitro reaction.
Guitar hangers that don't lock make me nervous. Some kid, some adult clown, or me being inattentive could lead to the guitar falling if I used something that didn't lock.
These are easy to install on the wall and are not expensive.
Other hangers may look better- agreed. But they don't hang better.

I have 3 or 4 different hangers, acquired over time. They all work, and the guitar doesn't bang against the wall on any of them, unless I get very careless and pull the body way out and let it go, in which case it can swing into the wall briefly, but if you're reasonably careful when hanging, there is no danger. I have hung all sorts of guitars including full depth archtops up to 18" and 3.5" depth, and they all clear the wall by a couple of inches.

Beware of small children near hanging guitars. Word.
Learned the hard way.

I have maybe a dozen guitars hung in my house and office. All the hangers do fine and are designed to keep the guitar away from the wall far enough they don’t touch. Even my 4-1/2” deep flattops. The Hercules ones with the swinging “lock” are nice. I have their guitar stands. But whatever the physics are of a hanging guitar, I’ve never had one fall or be knocked off.
One BIG plus of hanging your guitar is that it is so easy to grab it and play. A guitar in a case creates a small mental barrier to just picking it up for few minutes. A guitar on a stand takes up space and is just begging to be knocked over. A guitar just leaning against the wall is, is, is.... Oh the horror!
So definite +1 on hanging your guitars.

Best? Maybe not but I like these:

The one that comes with this..

I have about a half dozen String Swingers with the wood base for some of my guitars and ukes. They look nice enough and get the job done. Priced reasonable.
String Swing CC01K Guitar Keeper Hanger - Black Walnut | Sweetwater
I like the hooks referred to by Jabber, but $95? Maybe for 1 guitar, but not 6.
I also like the idea of creating an open frame around the guitar with or without a background. The only reason I haven't done this is I don't have the wall space.
I came across this on Pinterest, which I think is a neat idea for a special guitar or maybe a guitar that fits a particular quote, i.e., an ES-175 with a Joe Pass quote or Epi Casino with a John Lennon quote.

If I only had one guitar to hang on a wall, I'd do something like Joe (Max405) did in the above post. I have 12 hanging on the wall and I bought a 4'X8' sheet of Slat Wall, ripped into 20" wide sections and mounted the Slatwall to the walls. I used heavy duty wood sunk into the wall studs to hold the Slat Wall. It isn't going anywhere.
Before installing I painted the Slatwall the same color as the interior walls of the room. I used 4 1/2" Slatwall guitar swiveling guitar hangers with a lock. The swivel allows allows for more guitars than when placed flat on their back. I've had 12 guitars on this setup for 8 years now without any problems.
Now if someone would invent a collapsible guitar case, I'd be in heaven.

Anyone ever hang a guitar from picture rail? We just moved into an old place with picture rail (could be mistaken for crown moulding hung too low) in every room. Possibilities?

The backing wood can be a little pale, but you can always stain or paint it. You will need to wrap the arms that touch the back of the guitar neck if you have a nitro finish, though. They will strip the finish, unless they’ve changed the rubber material they use since I last bought one.

I hang 20 guitars using angled, extended String Swing hangers on tracks. They’ve been on my walls for 13 years now with no incident. I’ve also used the direct mounted (straight) hangers.

Living in California's earthquake country, my guitars only hang inside their respective hardshell case.

I'd prefer a glass case to hang them in if I had the coin and the floor space! That's the best.

Collector alert MG - I do have a glass case
i just want to hang a couple in the living as well , for same reasons like rlrhett sais above
i think the one jabs showed is nicest but expensive and not all that more functional than any of the others
i think the Hercules is safest probably, but maybe not the nicest to look at
unless someone has an alternative that is as good looking .... for now I ll order the HerculesLast edited by fws6; 11-19-2018 at 05:35 PM.

Where's that recent thread with a picture of an old Gibson with a hole drilled through the head stock sporting a wire loop for the nail in the wall?
-
Gotta admit the Hercules came with excellent mounting instructions....
