Not all guitars were built to be played, and not all guitar owners play them. Guitar collecting is a big driver of the market.

Since I doubt that Joe has owned that for 15 years, I'm going to guess that it has sold at least twice.

I have played a couple PRS Dragon guitars. They are pretty cool and despite the crazy inlays played just like a normal guitar. The guitar who owed them had a couple and he used to gig them.

Howard Leese from Bad Company/Heart gigs them as well. PRS Dragon II - Do these ever really sell?-howardleese1-jpg

I would be ashamed to show up at a gig with a guitar that didn't have a dragon on it. How would people know I was any good if I didn't have really expensive gear festooned in nonsense?

That guitar sports the tackiest inlay work I've ever seen.

    Ugh...

Because of the expensive inlays they had to cut corners elsewhere. So no money was left for PU caps or an adjustable bridge that provides proper intonation.

Well, you have to set priorities...

Deacon, I wonder if Carlos Santana was partially the influence behind that inlay idea.
I heard him say that during Woodstock he was so jacked up on LSD, he hallucinated that his guitar neck was a serpent. He was afraid to play it. But being a professional, he finished the show.

    Cool pic.

    The guitar looks appropriate there.

Would like to see Joe Pass playing one.

They used to have a PRS Dragon twin neck on display at PMT in Birmingham. I don’t think it’s there anymore so maybe someone did stump up the £30k price tag!

Wonder if it came with the hardcase too?

Most of us imagine stupid shit like that when we are a teenager. Most of us grow out of those ideas before we have the means and skills to execute them.

Although, I kind of like it for that.

Never found PRS’s much of a turn on though. Many do.

I feel one could summon many Baphomets on such an instrument.

not sure if it would be funnier if the player with that guitar was horrible or if they just played world class bebop fire

    Some wonderful circular logic there.

To play that you must only use the Locrian mode.

It would have to be the latter.

Some years ago, I was visiting friends in Florida and went to the annual January Orlando guitar show.......

I spotted a guy who had a booth and had about ten of these fancy inlay ones for sale. They aren't my cup of tea at all, but I did appreciate the inlay work, and got to talking with the seller. It turned out he was retired from PRS, and had been there for years. He ordered one of these fancy ones for himself each year.
His guitars were for sale, at that time, for approx. $10,000. ++. He said, 'yes that is what they sell for', and also said he'd sold 2 the day before to Japanese buyers.
FYI - here's a really good jazz / prog. guitarist here who likes a certain PRS model so much he bought another, after he'd heard that model may be discontinued.
PRS guitars may not be our go-to's, but it seems when guys like them they really like them.

I played something similar to this a few years ago and it was fantastic.

I had a PRS Custom 22. It had a very good jazz tone, much like a good Les Paul. And it had the comfort of a Strat. For the price of the guitar in the Deacon's post above, one could get (IMO) a better guitar, but if that one floats your boat and you have the scratch, why not? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Well somebody thought this was a great idea. Still makes me sick to my stomach everytime I see one of these. It's wrong in so many levels. I can't get over it.
Some people look at these guitars and say "Oh I want one of these, such a great idea!". And I'm reminded that these people exist everytime I see one of these guitars. For several hours I have to live with this knowledge until I manage to mentally suppress it.

    It’s an acoustically-tuned resonance hole (A-hole).
