Hey guys - just realized that I rarely ever see any semi hollows with only one pickup. Very common with guitars more than 2 inches thick, but I really like the Sadowsky ss-15 dimensions and I’m really attracted to not having a bridge pickup like that. Anything out there that’s 15” body, under 2” thick, one pickup, and preferably cheaper than the Sadowsky? Not interested in any thicker.

The Sadowsky SS-15 is fully hollow. Are you committed to semi-hollow or open to thinline hollow?

When I say semi hollow, I’m solely referring to depth. So yes, if you consider the ss-15 fully hollow, than those are included! Just looking for anything thinner than 2” with one pickup. I like the acoustic quality of the ss-15 without the thick body.

What about something like an Epiphone Sorrento? I happen to know where you could get one made in 1966.

    Hi,
    Questions/comments:
    - are you looking to buy something, or just have a conversation about this topic? If buying, it's helpful to know your budget so people can direct you in a helpful way;
    - semi- vs. full-hollowbody designs have more differences than just depth; are you interested in "thin" guitars, "acoustic-sounding" guitars, guitars that sound like ___ player, something that can be cranked up on a gig, etc. etc.?? There are many, many options out there ...

    Thanks!

If you're open to thin hollow-bodies, Gibson ES 125T or 120T, Guild T100 or T50. Think the Eastman AR403 and T146 are that thin as well (maybe a little thicker?)

Thanks for the suggestions above but still too thick. Plus I really like the regular humbuckers more than soapbars or P-90s.

As you can tell from all these suggestions, there are tons of single pick up guitars more than 2 inches thick. That’s why I felt like asking this question, because there’s nothing out there with the same dimensions as the Sadowsky without a bridge pickup! Prove me wrong!

i am shopping, yes. I prefer something modern, thin yet acoustic, humbucker, and of serious quality. The SS-15 is EXACTLY what I’d like to have. A big acoustic sound in a body under two inches thick, largely due to the absence of a bridge pickup. Just curious what the comparable guitars are in all price ranges.

The Epiphone Sorrento I mentioned above is slightly wider than the Sadowsky, but is 1 3/4” thick and comes with a single mini-humbucker in the neck. Off the top of my head, that’s the closest.

The Eastman doesn't use p90s. ps soap bar is a p90 with out the dog ear covers. I do recommend checking them or Ibanez out.

FWIW, I don’t know of any thinline guitar that has what I would call a big acoustic sound. That would definitely include the Sadowsky.

There is the fairly hard to come by single pickup Gibson ES-175T though.

I’m falling in love with the Sadowsky. I like the concept - a 1.75 inch body fully acoustic with a single humbucker. Was curious if there were any other guitars following this exact concept/model/approach. I’m not convinced that there are yet... but I’m shopping!

Eastman El Ray ER1 or ER4

Eastman might be able to accomodate you. Yunzhi or Wu most def could and it would prob be less expensive.

If you don’t have to have a cutaway (the Sadowski is a cutaway, but you didn’t list it as a requirement) then you can get a great one under $600 by buying a Godin 5th Avenue Acoustic (less than $400 at most places) and mounting the pickup of your choice. This is what I did for the Charlie Christian pickup.

If you are going thin, why not just get a 2nd pickup? Opens up the options a bit and the flexibility with the guitar, since you are already sacrificing the voice of the guitar anyway. You could get a used Epi Byrdland, lots of Gibsons, Collings, Heritage, Eastmans. Heck, I have Moll made Semi-Hollow with two pickups.

Jim Soloway had Heritage make him a lovely thinline Heritage 575 w/single set-in humbucker awhile back. 16" wide, not 15" wide. I'm sure they'd be happy to make you one.

What is your price ceiling? Collings is probably around the same price.

Mark Campellone is not advertising it, but he still has some EP-15 plates and would be happy to build you a thinline EP-15 - carved spruce top, laminated back, with a single set-in Humbucker. This is probably your best bang-per-buck choice for a gorgeous guitar with exactly the specifications you want, IMO.
