    Hello All,

I've just ordered one of these wall display cases from SF Display as a home for my brand new Campellone! Does ayone have suggestions on how to best make this into an effective humidor? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I would suggest getting two plastic travel bar soap containers, drill a series of holes in top lid, then add 2 thin wet ( not soaked) sponges to each container. Place these on bottom inside ledge. Additionally, buy an inexpensive guitar case humidity gage to place inside your cabinet and you should be all set.

Before I had a humidifed guitar room, I used these sponge cases in all my guitar cases and never had a problem.

Thanks for that tip Steve. I'm glad to hear this will work in the case I'm getting. owever, I was wondering if there isn't some kind of system you can use like they have in the high end guitar cabinets that advertise as humidors? A system that keeps himidity in a consistent range? I did a search and couldn't find anything.

Any self sustaining system would require a flow of water, like on a hot air heating system. Amazon has a bunch of small humidifiers that you might want to try, but they will still require water filling. The key is to purchase a hygrometer so you can manage whatever you put in place. I keep my guitar room at 50-55% all year. Some might thinks thats too high, but it's not. You don't want your wood cell structure drying out. My guitars rarely go out of tune, but even a 5% drop in humidity lowers the pitch on an Archtop.

This makes a lot of sense! I'll definitely get the hygrometer. Maintaining things in a display case I can easily look into should be pretty easy to do.

Check out Boveda's stuff; that's a large display case, but they may have something that works.

Thank you QAman and marcwhy for your suggestions. I did check out the Boveda site and, like you mentioned marcwhy, I do think the case is a little large for their technology. So I have taken QAman's suggestion with the soap dishes and case hygrometers.

The case arrived today and I got it installed (pic below). I'm really pleased with it as it's an economical way to have the guitar accessible and humidity controlled at the same time. I can't believe I never thought to get one of these before. However, it wasn't easy finding a case that holds a large archtop, and that didn't cost a fortune. Thanks again.

Ask member Max (JD) about that. He went through that entire wall case process for his D’Angelico.

Is that a Bose subwoofer to the left?

I have 3 of those same cases and I love them. Steve at SFDisplay is a GREAT guy.
I recommend an evaporative AirCare horizon console humidifier for the room. The case with the guitar in it will acclimate to the moisture level of the air in the room. Most humidifiers have a humidistat built in. Get yourself a cheap humidistat from Walmart too.
Next to the guitars themselves, those cases are the best money I’ve spent.

AIRCARE Copper Night Whole House Evaporative Humidifier with Auto Shutoff, Adjustable humidistat, 4.75-Gallon Console and Refill Indicator- HD3120DCN Horizon - Walmart.com - Walmart.com

This humidifier will take care of your guitar.

    That's nice.

Do you think an oasis would be adequate for that large a cavity?

You may find a suitable size for your display case. Sure beats the Boveda or D'addario branded packs in the long run.

Yes 2b, that's a Bose L1 Compact. A few years ago I became intrigued by Martin Taylor's involvement with the development of the Orange Acoustic Preamp and I ended up getting one. I run it into the Bose system and LOVE it. You can really shape your tone nicely with the Orange, and then the Bose system makes you feel surrounded by the sound. Combine that with the acoustic volume of the guitar in your face...heavenly!! I love it. And the Bose system works nicely for playing out too as it disperses the sound gently and evenly rather than simply a straight line projection.

Thank you for these tips Joe. I was hoping/thinking that the case would keep its own humidity level so I guess I need to rethink that and get a room humidifier. This is very informative thank you.

And I believe it was your review at SFDisplay that caused me to instantly order one. And I'm very glad I did! Thanks for taking the time to write that review. It answered every pertinent quetion I had about the case!

These are very intriguing! Based on what Joe said (that the case acclimates to the room), I wonder if the case is sufficiently sealed for something like this or the Oasis etc to work? I do like the thought of a 2-way system if possible. Dryness is the biggest concern, but I live near Chicago and it can get pretty humid as well.

Hi, I tried the Oasis. You will fill it every day, sometimes twice and after a month if you dont use distilled water the small tank will get moldy.
The problem/good thing about these cases is they slowly acclimate to the humidity levels outsise the case. The key word is SLOWLY. So there wont be any fast changes in moisture levels. That is a good thing.
Paul, Humidify the room. Especially if thats the room you will play in. You will be glad you did.
45-50% is a very healthy environment for guitars and the human body too. Trust me.

That is so true Bro. I love being able to see my babies without taking them out of the case.
