    Hi guys

    Gretsch G9555 New Yorker
    China from 2000s

    Said to have solid top
The pickup looks like DeArmond style single on rail.

    Anyone has experience with it?

    Thank you

I tried one and didn't think much of it. The online specs say it's solid spruce, but it must be pressed because it definitely does not sound anything like a carved acoustic archtop. As a point of reference, both an unplugged Godin Kingpin and an ES125 are louder, and sound better. The RC 1000 is a cool pickup, but that's not a great vehicle for one. Guild A150 Savoy also has an RC 1000 and blows it out of the water (granted, for quite a bit more money). In the style of guitar (ES 125 wannabes), Godin is the way to go, IMO.

    Thanks!
I gave it a try today and did not like it either. Does not sound solid top at all to me.
Tbh Savoy re-issue does not sound it either to my ear (I had a chance to play one for quite a while). But still way better guitar for sure.

I had Acoustic Godin 5th Ave where I installed Kent Armsrong floating P90 style pickup (bought directly from Kent)... still feel sorry that I let go this simple but very practical and well-built guitar

I was a Gretsch nut for a long time (and I still regret getting rid of my 1954 Country Club). The 9555 New Yorker is interesting to me (because I still have a soft spot for Gretsches despite finding most of them to have necks too thin for my preference), but I have a feeling, that like the original New Yorker, it's a bit too budget for my taste. Also, It has a V-neck, which I don't like. If I were to get a jazz suited Gretsch, I'd probably go vintage, get a G100CE Syncromatic (which is a bit better than the New Yorker), or if you can find them (they've been out of production for a few years) and don't mind springing for the extra cash, a G6040 Synchromatic. I almost bought the non-cutaway acoustic-only version of the G6040 Synchromatic 10 years ago, but chickened out, when it seemed like I wasn't going to be able to pay off the one I'd put on layaway at the time. I especially kicked myself for letting the one I had on layaway go, when I saw a guy playing the chord melody on the electric version (like the one in the photo below) in 2016, and getting absolutely killer jazz tones out of it.
