Does anyone have any info on Jimmy Bruno's new Sadowsky guitar that he i uing at Frank Vignola's Wednesday night at Birdland? (see Peter Bernstein Sits-In with Frank And Jimmy at Birdland - Jazz Guitar Today
    for pics)

Is that a 15" lower bout on the guitar?

    Thanks

    Doug

Did Sadowsky sponsor or something?--looks like Frank was playing one too, which wouldn't be his usual guitar...

Jimmy's guitar is the Sadowsky Jimmy Bruno model, which was discontinued several years ago. You can see Jimmy Bruno's signature on the trussrod cover. It's a 15" archtop.

Frank Vignola is playing a Sadowsky SS-15, a thinline hollow archtop. I haven't seen him playing a Sadowsky at any other time. As suggested above, perhaps Sadowsky was sponsoring the evening or perhaps Vignola needed to borrow a guitar for the show.

I know that Jimmy used to have a Sadowsky model many moons ago, but I had heard somewhere that they had made him an updated model as well as making one for Frank V.

Sadowsky has been attending each Guitar Night, and acknowledged by Vignola, who has been playing the Sadowsky guitar for a month or so there. Ken Smith also plays a Sadowsky in the show. I have no insight into any quid pro quo or other arrangements, but all three have been very vocal in their compliments about the guitar and the luthier. All the guitar nights are available for viewing on YouTube. Frank's latest guest was Peter Bernstein, not playing a Sadowsky , and the previous week he had Henry Acker, an amazing young guitarist, playing a Gibson. Gene Bertoncini is regularly on also. It's a show worth watching.

BTW, Jimmy Bruno is a testament that short stubby fingers work just fine for those that bring that up from time to time.

Thanks, I'll have to watch the shows on Youtube-didn't know they were available. BTW-A player the stature of Peter Bernstein can play whatever guitar he wants! :-)

PB hasn't played anything except his Zeidler in public in years, AFAIK. I was making a joke.

Went to the show about a month ago before Frank had the Sadowsky. Sadowsky was in attendance. The show is definitely worth going to.

Jimmy plays a number of instruments these days (e.g., Comins, Sadowsky, his Dad's Gibson, a variety of others as well etc.). The Sadowsky was actually given to him by a kind fan/admirer because I believe that he had sold his old one. When he travels to NYC usually will play either the Sadowsky or the Comins GCS-1. His Dad's guitar and the carved archtop by Bill are used at home or at local gigs. For online instruction, he likes to play his guitars that have fretboard position markers for ease of communication.

Note that the Bruno has a 15 fret neck as opposed to the 14 fret neck on the SS-15. I have been hesitant to ever part with my Bruno because I have become used to that access.

They are supposedly reintroducing the Bruno model. I don't know if it will be any different from the original.
