    Hey folks,
I recently received a Godin that I sort of bought on a whim, reasoning that an acoustic archtop is the perfect "couch" guitar for my apartment. It wasn't absolutely necessary as I already have a nice Eastman electric archtop which sounds quite nice unplugged, and I have a decent Larrivee dreadnaught, but I couldn't help myself. I've liked all the Godin Kingpins I've tried, and I love the look and idea of cherry (laminate) and the antique burst finish is very pretty.

Anyway, I threw a set of the .012 flatwounds on it, which I usually use on my electric archtop just because that's what I happened to have on hand. But I know they're not the best choice and I'm considering a good set of .013 acoustic strings. Right now I'm leaning towards Thomastik Infield Plectrums as I used to love them on my Ovation. They're not piercingly bright and seem to last forever.

I can't seem to find original string specs on the Godin 5th Avenue acoustic, so I don't know what it came with new. Anybody think .013s are too heavy for this guitar?
    Thanks!

It'll be fine with 13's (I used them on my 5th Ave Kingpin, which is the same guitar with a pup screwed onto the top). Solid nickel/monel round wounds (e.g., Martin Retro) work well on this guitar, or regular phosphor bronze acoustic strings.

    I think they ship with D’Addario 12s.

Yes I have 12s on mine. I have pure nickels since I added a floater to mine.

If it weren't plugged in (occasionally), I'd go with phosphor bronze rounds or D'A flattops.
