    Hello,

I'm restauring on old Tellson 10S, and I noticed that the tailpiece is well connected to the tail, but not exactly in the middle position of the body. And this showes in the positioning of the strings over the neck: At the bodyside from the neck the big E is 10mm from the side-edge of the neck where the high e is only 2 mm separated.
Though this seems easy to correct, I'm in doubt.

The instrument, though old, is in very good condition and so well build, that I just can't understand that they made such an incomprehensible mistake. Could there be some contruction related reason that they put the tailpiece at such an out-of-balance position? Can it be that it's not a sensible thing to do to drill and bould at the exact place where the two ends of the sidepanels of the body meet? One would say that the big chunk of wood that's underneath should cover for this.
Or can there be any other reason for it?

I'd love to hear from you all.

    Greetings,
    Peter from Holland.

In order to get the strings properly on aligned on theneck, the tailpiece has to be reallocated. One might wonder why the previous owner never corrected that? May be it was only used for decoration or??

For sure it has to be aligned, but my concern was that I couldn't grasp such a mistake. So I got scared that realligning would cause more damage.
But now i'm convinced that there's no reason not to.

I'm not sure about the history of the instrument; it's 60 years old and i have it for about 15 years now. But for sure the previous owner (to me, that is) had it only for decoration. I rescued it after a plea from a mother for the demolitionhands of her eight year old kid.

    Alcohol is the answer.
As consumed by whoever installed the tailpiece.
Available to you if you wish to forget about it and leave it as is.
Not recommended prior to relocating the tailpiece to line up the strings properly.
Strongly recommended for the post-re-installation festivities.
