    Hi guys,

What's your preference regarding amp placement when playing at home. Siting right in front of the speaker, the amp behind you, in the floor, at ear level, plenty of air around it...?

I leave the amp by the door. Unplugged at home, it's the reason I got an archtop in the first place.

I tend to sit in front of the cabinet/combo, with it on the floor. I want to be able to hear it without getting it too loud.

I have one in front and one behind, both far enough away to prevent me altering the settings — thus I can concentrate on music, not tone. Both amps sit on the floor. I sit by a window, where I play music to watch commuters by.

My archtop is usually played acoustically, my other guitars amped. It's about 10 feet away in front of me, in the doorway between two rooms.

Because of my living room layout I have my main behind and to the left about 6 feet away. I like to keep it raised a bit to avoid bass coupling which can be pretty pronounced. If I'm using an open back combo amp, this is all fine because there are lots of room reflections to open up the sound. However, right now I'm using a closed back cabinet and it's very directional. Too much so for my taste. So I'm running a side speaker (could be most anything you can drive from your setup) on the other side of the room pointed at me. It's nice and room filling even running mono (could set it up stereo) and as much as I enjoy fiddling with gear, it's hard to improve upon.

I have a compact practice area in the corner of the living room. Both my amps are under my desk and I practice sitting on a stool in front of them. I have a cable from the guitar to my compressor and from there it goes to an AB-Y switch to select either my Mustang LT25 (for recording or headphone playing) or the SuperSonic 22. The left side of the pedal board is for the effects loops on the SS22.

for practicing, i like it pointing at me so i can quickly hear/correct my mistakes. for gigs, definitely like some air so it blends with the other players.
My home rock rig is W/D/W (wet/dry/wet), so it points right at my face to appreciate the stereo field.

Faced them while they sat on the floor for years. Started facing away since that's how you hear it on stage, and I just recently got a table to have the speakers at ear level.
