Hi, I‘m looking for a warm yet sparkly 8“ speaker with no boxiness for a Champ BF Clone as well as for a Laney Super Cub 8. The Jensen P8R sounds like a dream, unfortunately it farts out on the bass strings with an breakup overdrive from my Wampler 65. That said the new speaker needs a tight and lean bass response.
    I’m thinking of:

    Jensen C8R
    Jupiter 8SC
    Warehouse G8C

I‘ve played the Warehouse a few years ago and I liked it, but I don‘t remember it‘s bass response , especially because my tonal preferences changed.
I‘ve tried the G8A (the Alnico version) and found this speaker surprisingly boring and bad sounding vs. the Jensen Alnico.

Anyone here with a good advice? Thanks a lot!

I had a vintage 5f1 with a perfectly intact original speaker. I tried a bunch of modern speakers in it so that I could get the closest tone to the original but with better bass handling.

The winner was the Weber cva8 by a long shot. All other modern speakers sound very different from the original Oxford 8ev.

The Jupiter 8sc is a great speaker (sounds big for an 8) but in that particular amp it sounded boring due to the small cab, similar to your wgs. In a larger cab like a vibrochamp the Jupiter is fantastic.

Wampler 65 into a 5f1 is an interesting choice. By nature that pedal is going to add a lot of scoopy low end. Dunno why you want to add harsh blackface overdrive to a tweed circuit that breaks up so nicely.

In general I'd say Fat Jimmy alnico 8, but for your description, I'd recommend FJ ceramic. [Made by WGS]

Jensen has just issued an FB teaser announcing three new models - affordable, I believe, with ceramic magnets. One of them is an 8-incher, I believe. I may be getting the specs soon but my lips will be sealed until Jensen's song and dance at NAMM. BTW, if one can draw parallels from Jensen's 6.5" offering, the ceramic C6V and AlNiCo P6V sound identical for all intents and purposes.

Sorry, a further edit: I have no personal experience with 8" speakers, as another set of injection molding tools would be required to establish a new Toob caliber. However, my speaker supplier speaks superlatives about Eminence's hemp-coned 820H. The 620H is wonderful but comes in 4-ohm version only, which is poison to many small amps.

It‘s a BF Champ Clone and the Wampler sounds everything but harsh I use it more or less like a preamp subtle overdrive at low volumes.

They‘re not available in europe so I was asking especially for the speakers above, thanks!

Combo uses a Celestion TFO 818 100 watt speaker. Been really happy with it. And it’s only $70

Oh woops I missed that. So you’re plugging a black face emulator into a black face amp. Never thought of trying that. Sounds interesting. I have used the wampler with my henriksen. It’s ok but that pedal has zero headroom for hot pickups.

I use it for low overdrive at reasonable levels at home and recording. Works fantastic. More so on the Laney (complete underrated small class A amp!). The Wampler is such a great tool but you need some time to fiddle your tone out. It turns a bf champ into a bedroom deluxe, so to say. And I guess you’re right, it’s made for vintage type single coils. I got a lot of headroom (gain at noon: subtle breakup) with my own Tele-type Tvcasters.

    Concerning the speakers:
Since I really dig the sweet tone from the AlNiCo Jensen I guess I‘ll try a JJ6V6 before a speaker swap since this tube is more or less a 6L6. Maybe the Bass is tighter with this tube?

Edit: congrats again for your beautiful TK Smith guitar! I‘m sure you would like my guitars too

    OK, didn't know the geo-factor!

In that case, of the models listed above, I'd go Jupiter (also made by WGS, of course).

Some years ago, I built me a 5F1 clone and I included a Warehouse G8C and a JJ6V6S (among things). Quite happy with the result, so I never investigated other speakers. I find bass response quite good for such a small box (that was my best surprise with this build)

I installed an Eminence 820h in my ‘59 Supro Super last year. I was a bit concerned that it might be a little too wooly/middy, but that wasn’t the case. Bass is tight and no lack of treble. It’s taken the amp into Blackface Champ territory, which is fine by me. YMMV.

I have a Weber cva in my Silverface Champ. This, after a lot of trying out lots of other good and satisfying options. But something about the Weber gave it a strong voice with clarity throughout its range and made every note rewarding.
I often went with Eminence but for the Champ 8", Weber is no doubt my favourite.

    @Jimmy blue note:

    „…made every note rewarding.“
That‘s what we all are after, no?

I second the eminence 820h. I put a 620h in my little Yamaha G5 ( which needs a 4 ohm) and it is great. No boxiness, warm and smooth.
