man I love that MJQ album. "The Stopper" is my jam. For what it's worth, I think the album is '53.
That is the original progression: F6 > G7b9(= Abo7) > Gm7 > C7. For example: F6/A: 5-x-3-5-4-x >> G7b9/Ab: 4-x-3-4-3-x >> Gm7: 3-x-3-3-3-x >> C7: x-3-2-3-1-x
Yeah, Sonny's the man, although I wouldn't say 1956 is "years" before his seminal work, I mean Saxophone Colussus was released in 1957  It doesn't get any more seminal than that album!
Smart move by both you and JZ
Body and Soul a favorite but haven’t played it in a minute https://youtu.be/VI0pCBzxli8?si=CQPE29TzKn5peJQD The piano player asked to play Body and Soul and you can hear me say “alright...
I played Body and Soul at a session tonight. I think I ignored the E dim completely
I've decided to keep the Tal Farlow for now. It really is an amazing archtop. This week, I learned that if I take care of my hands, I can still play it quite well so I'll hold on to it for a bit...
What is the difference between a finger tailpiece and ordinary trapeze tailpiece on a jazz box? Thanks Doug
I got the impression musicians in San Diego weren't interested in sponsored gigs overseas anymore in the mid 80's. I talked to a bandmate about 8 years later and they weren't interested. It was run...
Have you ever heard of rehearsals? Even the WRD big band has regular rehearsals.
Offered for sale is quite a rare, late 1970’s (presumed 1979) Goya Model GE-500 copy of a Gibson L-5CES, albeit with some creative license, per the split block f/b inlays and elegantly shaped...
FWIW, I believe Quilter used the Celestion in the 8" MicroPro series.
The new Heritage Eagles are world class guitars. I have a 2023 Eagle Classic and I enjoy it as much as my 68 Super 400CES. The Eagle is a little louder acoustically. Both are outstanding amplified.
