Has anyone worked with these videos? Bruce Forman is an amazing player and educator. I'm very tempted to give these a try.

I have both of Bruce's masterclasses from the MMMC site.

....I'd put them around the advanced intermediate level....but would be surprised if
most players didn't gain valuable insights.

Found them both to be informative and inspiring in Bruce's inimitable style.
The guy has a way of making complex ideas become clearer.

You can buy these with confidence......the content is excellent and the production
    values are top quality.

I suggest you go to Home - My Music Masterclass

.....and check out the offerings there.

The pricing is very reasonable too.
For the still unconvinced .....or cash strapped....you can take a 1day pass IIRC.

Bruce will kick your ass, but put a smile on your face.... and I'd be surprised if you don't feel
inspired to head straight off to the shed.

    Moonray,

Does the masterclass include solo and comping examples, or is it purely a discussion of concepts?

    Hey 4on6

The first class does deal in depth with both comping and soloing.

Bruce takes you through how to comp for yourself as in a trio or solo
situation and using dynamics to clarify for yourself and band mates which role you're playing.
Sounds obvious.....but many players don't do this.

He doesn't get bogged down with chord/scale theory or such like....his is a very
    practical methodology.
His approach could be viewed as an up date on the Joe Pass one.

ie: "Here is a chord....here are the extensions/alterations right under my fingers in that position."
....Voice leading is covered too...emphasis on continuity of lines on the top of changes.

Also, he is big on getting a good sound....from your instrument....with your technique ...not getting new gear.
I agree with him putting emphasis on this...
In my experience a lot of jazz schools just leave tone production up to the student.

Just try the one day option.....as I mentioned in my last post.....you'll know if it's for you.

Look forward to discussing it further if you do check it out.

I got the download to keep and find myself going back to it to get a lift....Bruce just exudes vitality and
positive energy and I go away happier in my practice.

I've bought both of Bruce Forman's classes in the last fortnight and think they're great (great value too).

Neither are prescriptive, "do A, then B, then C" type lessons, but rather, BF sharing his take on topics that he feels are important. He backs up everything he says with his playing examples (he can talk whilst peeling off great guitar lines!)

He's clearly a funny guy and enthusiastic about playing and teaching. You could take one of his sentences or ideas and go away and develop your own exercises and practice schedule around it (I can imagine that's what he would want you to do).

If you have the self-motivation and go away and think and work on what he says, there's lot to gain from the videos.

Glad this thread was started. I ended up with both videos and especially like the second one. Bruce is saying a lot of things most of us have heard before and just nodded our head, but not worked on. It was good hearing again and hearing how he practiced them. A lot of great advice and practice tips, especially his saying quit using books so much.

I just sprung for both of them and watched the first. I am in total agreement with this assessment. It's inspiring to see these concepts in action and so well illustrated. Can't wait to watch the Learning Tunes class, but first I gotta shake off the fatigue from watching so much virtuosic playing.

Can't believe how cool Bruce is, I had a question about something he talked about in the video. So I emailed him and he just got back to be with a detailed explanation. He said if explanation wasn't enough let him know and he would explain more.

Just finished watching the Learning Tunes Masterclass. Possibly the most profoundly instructive material I've every experienced. I'm no better a player after watching it, but the path is clearly laid out. Highly, highly recommended.

I just wanted to bump this thread to add my recommendation for both of these classes. As others have said, they are so inspiring and filled with tons of great concepts. I know I will keep coming back to these every few months for a long time to come!

For what it's worth, Bruce has had a program offering after school classes to students. He got a Rex Foundation grant a few years back to help fund it. Cool that Bruce is outreaching to the young 'uns to get instruments in their hands and jazz in their ears.

Bruce forman's video impacted my so deeply the content is so sincere and reached my heart immediately,he doesn't show you notes to play or licks it's much deeper than that.
After watching his lessons it was like a therapy didn't pick my guitar that night ,i knew something changed in my view to jazz learning.
Best lessons i've ever watched.the guy is fantastic ,no need to talk about his playing ,what a shame i didn't know one of the badest cats in the world.
I identified with his phrases .
Btw he is the teacher of mimi fox.
    Amazing player ,just perfect!

Get his two first lessons asap! Learning tunes and jazz guitar it will change you!

Subscribe to Guitarwank, a podcast where he and Scott Henderson BS and talk to other artists. Their divergent styles and attitudes blend nicely. Both are also Monster players and musicians.

Another satisfied BF customer here. Bought the solo guitar lesson and couldn't be happier. i like his teaching style a lot: no bs, just hands-on stuff. Next will be the Learning Tunes lesson I guess. Or maybe I should get the first one in the series?

I ended up getting all his lesson on mymusicMasterClass , watching him to talk is a huge moment of truth,he doesn't tell you play this or that , he's coaching in a much higher level ! Love forman's teaching and envy people who were blessed to study under him ! just the best !
