This came up on my Apple Music, so I gave it a spin. Wow, knocked my socks off.
Funky Knuckles is out of Dallas TX. They have been around awhile—kind of a big band or small big band collective. Their current album The Way It Is is off the charts great. Big band, jazz, jamband, funk—it’s all there. It’s as if Miles continued down the electro funk mode he was in in the mid-70’s. As if Sco and Medeski, Martin and Woods had horn players.
If you like The Grand Wazoo, you’ll love this album. (I swear the last song on the album is an alternate song from Grand Wazoo.)
The players are all top-notch, but the guitar stuff by Ethan Ditthardt is awesome. Like the second coming of Allen Holdsworth.
No vocals, so you can relax and get your funk-fusion vibe on without worrying about out of tune jamband singers. Give it a listen.

They should tour with Snarky Puppy, and be the two coolest bands with absolutely awful names tour.
