How many of you have heard of Drew Zingg, I'm talking about the guitarist Drew Zingg and not about the photographer David Drew Zingg. He must be one of the best unknown guitarists there is.

Drew is not a jazz guitarist in the strict sense, but an all-round guitarist in a class seldom seen in my opinion. He can be heard with Steely Dan on Alive in America - a stunning guitar player.

Really no comments on this thread? I bring it to life again with the same question.

    Hello,
I read an article about Drew Zingg in "Vintage Guitar" magazine- you're right-he's a great player!!! Reminds me of Larry Carlton-another great player.
Here's a clip of Drew playing with Boz Skaggs (He takes a brief solo about 2.15 min into the clip). Cheers, Jeff

    Love Drew's feel and phrasing.

And Boz is just sublime. What a groove. Relaxed? It's what it is.

Yep, them unknown guitar slingers for hire usually have some scarey chops. People hear them on hundreds of recordings and on tour as sidemen, but nobody knows their name. They usually laugh all the way to the bank, unlike strictly "jazz" guitarists.

We should all post the ones we know about.
    Here's two of my "discoveries".
    Chuck D'Aloia, John Findlay.

Here's Drew weaving some more nice phrasing with Steely Dan-I particularly like the lick at 4.29 min. And yes, Boz sounds great!

Unfortunately only two (2) tracks; Green Earrings & Third World Man. Both are the highlights, for me, of that CD.

There are a bunch of Board Bootlegs from the early tours with Drew that are fantastic!!

There is at least one pro-shot concert from that period (Nashville 11/10/93). I have it on VHS and it's great.

Starting this thread I have to ask - where can I get a copy (preferably on DVD) of that concert?

It's bootleg so I probably bought/traded it from widzvidz.com. Altough it's pro shot, I wouldn't expect DVD quality sound and picture, but it is still great concert!!
