If you have the chance go see it. Wow. I have seen Pat live twice before but his solo show last night was incredibly entertaining and the most amazing guitar playing I ever witnessed. A little bit of everything: acoustic, picasso guitar, his Ibanez, that crazy percussion thing, baritone guitar, looping that blew my mind, storytelling. On two songs he looped a like 32 bar bass line and then went to town! He played one angular looping crazy piece that would make Marc Ribot blush. Opened up on his Ovation nylon with a medley that sort of captured his whole career. Apparently his regular guitar “broke” right before the show. The Ovarion sounded amazing.

Pat on an Ovation - I never imagined that would happen, but if that's the stand-in...I'm sure he would indeed have made it sound great. No photos allowed, I bet!

Pat… what a guy. Unbelievably accomplished player, yet I’d say he’s a musician first and foremost, a composer second, an arranger third and a guitarist fourth. I have to admit, though, that I think the Dreambox album is aptly titled… Glad to hear the show was riveting. I hope he’ll come to Europe. I’ll be there.

Rob - Pat has been playing that nylon Ovation for decades on and off. His Slaman nylon also has an Ovation pickup in it. I wondered that he returned to the Ovation some years ago...

Saw him last night in Hartford. Very full show. 2 solid hours of an overview from his musical career. He was very engaging and entertaining. His crew helped to provide pristine sound regardless of the guitars he used. Highly recommended! Seems like he’s just getting warmed up for his long tour. Big fun.??

Dang, sounds awesome. I might have to drive to Des Moines on a school night to see him, or wait until he goes to Denver, where my son lives.

I’ve seen him twice, in the 80’s. Great show both times.

I would agree with that assessment, just would add that with his long-form pieces such as From This Place he is assuming the role of perhaps the best composing guitarist around today. Just outstanding composition that one can enjoy and learn new things from even on the 50th (or more) listen.

Absolutely! I have a deep appreciation for the beautiful music he brings into our world. I’d be in awe of him even if James was his only song.

he's coming to Denver at the Paramount October 15, and Boulder I believe one of the days next to that. I've only seen him the one time years ago at the Botanic Gardens, with the Unity band and Chris Potter, which was obviously mind blowing. Looking forward to seeing him up close at the Paramount!
