The Sheraton was a custom order and stamped as limited edition.
Originally equipped with Firebird pups, the previous owner replaced them with period correct PAF mini humbuckers.

This guitar was made simultaneously (successive serial number) with the prototype Sheraton for Leon Rhodes (guitarist by Ernest Tubb). Sold as part of the collection by Carter Vintage Guitars.
exchange with Gibson (ES-330 or SJ-200) or Gretsch CS Fender custom shop or Acoustic Martin would also be fine.

What is the significance of the "X" on the back of the headstock and the unusual serial # (only the first two digits are gold)? Thanks in advance.

Don’t know about the ‘X’.
In the seventies Gibson only started the regular serial number process after 1977.
The years before that numbers started with:
99 = 1975
00 = 1976
06 = 1977
The Leon Rhodes model has the serial number set up als with the first digits in gold. That one is stamped prototype instead of x.
