You're The Best Thing (The Style Council) Chords

Hello all!

I am hoping one of the geniuses here can help. I am learning a simple song by The Style Council entitled "You're the best thing"

For me this has been an ear training episode of sorts and one that I am failing miserably! The opening solo that Paul Weller does is not complicated and I have the first part of it no problem, its the second half, for what ever reason I just can't get it. I briefly had a look online but it seems that all of the tab charts are completely wrong!

Here is the Video. Can anyone please help me decipher what is going on? It sounds beyond basic, HELP!

I assume your talking about the intro ?

To my ear , it's a IV , iii , ii , V progression in Emajor
so the chords are Amaj7 , G#min7 , F#min7 , B7

the intro he plays is all nice Emaj pentatonic stuff
(this is same as C# minor pent)

get your hand into the 9th position
like your ready to play a C# minor bar chord

and play (mess around) with ...
4 11 , 3 9 , 3 11 ,shift to 12th posn
3 13 , 2 12 ,2 14,1 12,1 14, shift up to 1 16

(the first number being the string number
second number is the fret)

the second half of the intro is all up there

Chorus seems to move into F# major, and uses F#maj7, G#m, and A#maj7.

i got the chorus as
|F#maj7. |Bmaj7. | x3
|Amaj7. | Fmaj7 |

only crucial difference is the Amaj7 in bar 7 of chorus

Thank you all for that, I will take those suggestions and go at it.

The jazz side to Paul Weller is great, and his song writing skills are always tastful to me. Not bad for a punk Rocker!
