"I Can't Tell You Why" is a song by the American rock band Eagles that appeared on their 1979 album The Long Run.
It was written by band members Timothy B. Schmit, Glenn Frey and Don Henley.
Recorded in March 1978, it was the first song finished for the album and the first Eagles song to feature Schmit on lead vocals.

It may not be jazz, and it may not be "sophisticated". But there's a lot to learn from everything to which you listen. My favorite version of this tune is from a 1993 Eagles tribute album. The soprano sax solo at 2:08 (by Jim Horn, who was one of the Wrecking Crew regulars) is one of the most beautiful and elemental improvisations I've ever heard. Over in the funk thread, Cunamara's been leading a discussion of adding a basic feel to a groove with fine offsets to the beat. Listen to how Pete Wasner's e-piano (a Wurly) does this leading into the first bar of the melody at 23 seconds in. Wasner plays around the beat perfectly in several places, but he doesn't use the same figure again and again. His playing is absolutely artful. And, of course, Vince Gill's voice is not too shabby either
