Well, it's very good, of course, but Alone Together is a slowish ballad!

Grant Green, Sonny Stitt, Sonny Rollins, also I just felt like it.

I know, especially after time away. But I can't really tell what you're doing, that's the trouble. I don't know whether you played the Abo or the E7, etc. It's difficult without a backing.

Grant Green and Sonny Stitt don't play it that fast but Rollins does, with ?Burrell on guitar. But what they have in common is phrases rather than a stream of 8ths. And Grant plays it more like kind of blues, pretty spaced out.

Don't get me wrong, what you did was impressive, what with the singing 'n all. I couldn't do that, not at that speed and complexity anyway.

Well that sounds like a personal problem.

Yes, dear boy, I am aware that I am not as good or musical as Sonny Rollins.

Well then perhaps a little practice is in order for our friend ragman?

No one's as good as Rollins. As for singing while I play, I don't do that. Unless I'm singing, if you see what I mean

I was a singer first, you see

Never played it as a ballad. Don't know what you're on about

Oh, come on, it's practically a folk song!

A lot of slower versions but most I would call maybe down swing. Not really ballad. Most of the time I’ve heard it live it’s closer to the Sonny Rollins tempo.

    Peter -

There's nothing wrong with what you did, it's very impressive as I said. It was just hard for me to follow, that's all. I mean, you must admit you were dashing about a bit.

You are a patient and gracious lord.

I guess it’s constructive criticism time?

More like a dirge in this instance... for whom did the bell toll?

Not a lord. I've met one or two, they're a bit odd. Could be the inbreeding :-)
